Brevard Music Center presents an evening treat for cinephiles and music aficionados alike. Following "White Lotus," Min Xiao-Fen's acclaimed score for the 1934 classic Chinese silent film "The Goddess," she received a commission from the Smithsonian Institution to compose new original soundtracks for "Romance of the Fruit Peddler" and "Romance of the Western Chamber," two historical Chinese silent films from the 1920s.
 
Known for her innovative approach to traditional music and her ability to seamlessly integrate diverse musical styles, Ms. Min will perform with master percussionist River Guerguerian, a leading figure in classical, jazz and world music. Together they bring a unique cross-cultural expression and artistic vision to the stage. Both films will be shown during the performance.

Now living in Germany, she teaches at the Freiburg University of Art, Design, and Music and The Jazz und Rockschule. Lindsey's voice brings clarity and healing.

Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center presents an evening treat for cinephiles and music aficionados alike. We will focus on embellishments such as snaps and rolls to increase your dexterity, playing while stepping with polyrhythms, creating a musical dynamic, and grooving in odd time signatures. We will explore a wide range of rhythms from around the world as well as many original River Guerguerian compositions.

Turning Jewels Into Water is the duo of Haitian-born drummer, DJ, educator and electronic music artist Val Jeanty and Indian-born drummer, producer and educator Ravish Momin They will exclusively premiere songs from their newly released album, Our Reflection Adorned by Newly Formed Stars (August 21st from FPE Records), including ‘Flower In Flames,’ ‘Our Reflection Adorned by Newly Formed Stars’ and ‘Crushed Petals.’ Drawing from the Vodun religion, Val recreates the ancient rhythms and pulse of Haiti through digital beats, while Momin, whose own musical background is rooted in Indian, North African and Middle-Eastern traditions, has developed an original blend of electro-acoustic beats, drawing together the improvisational traditions in Jazz and Indian folk music.

Details: This workshop is an exploration of River’s method for playing frame drum and riq tambourine for percussionists of all levels. We will focus on refining technique and cover a broad range of global rhythms including intricate lyrical sequences suitable for performance.
